 Dunlap Community Year- End Summary and Update

 In 2010, Dunlap Community saw a change in leadership. The Orrville Hospital Foundation Board of Directors announced the appointment of Marchelle L. Suppan D.P.M., M.B.A., as President and CEO, of Dunlap Community Hospital, following the retirement of Rod Steiger.
 
The following changes and additions were made to staff and services to enhance the growth the hospital:
  • Recruitment of Dr. Bob Bowden (Women’s Health Services); Dr. Nicholas Sherock (Dunlap Community OB/GYN); and Jessica Sylvester, C.N.M. (Twin Springs Medical Center)
  • Hiring of Brian Mahaney, Perioperative Services Manager
  • Upgraded Dunlap Community Information Technology
  • The Emergency Department successfully continued to have patients seen by a physician in an average time in fifteen minutes or less.
  • Long-time pharmacy technician received Certification
  • Purchased a Hoyer Lift
  • Purchased a new telemetry system for cardiac rehab patients
  • Implementing upgrades to the medication distribution system
  • Preparing to replace employee elevator
  • The Orrville Hospital Foundation purchased a Harmonic Scalpel that requires fewer instrument changes during a procedure, allows for greater precision, minimizes any lateral tissue damage, and coagulates blood to create less bleeding than a steel scalpel.
  • Meeting with Amish Leaders held 3/29/10
  • DCH celebrated Doctors’ Day on 3/30/10
  • Formation of Medication Error Reduction Improvement Team (M.E.R.I.T.) to address medication occurrences and process improvement opportunities with findings reported through P&T Committee 
  • Continued support of Healthy Communities Program led by Dr. Andy Naumoff and Know Your Numbers campaign by Dunlap Community Healthworks
  • Continued support of Healthcare Cost Reduction Coalition – Community wide effort coordinated by Cy Naumoff and Deb Stimmel (Aultman Health Foundation employee)   
  • Cardiac Rehab Reunion led by Dr. Skip Seese
  • Second Annual Women’s Health Awareness Event held 11/11/10 and included celebrating Dr. Doug Brown’s 4,000 birth and retirement from OB effective 12/31/10   
  • Dunlap Community Echocardiography program received accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Labs (ICAEL)
  • Food and Drug Administration approval of Mammography
  • Vascular Ultra-sound program received accreditation
  • Ohio Department of Health/Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approval of the Radiology Department
  • Ohio Department of Health approval of Perinatal Program 
  • Wayne County and Ohio Department of Health approval of Dietary Department
 Last Year, Dunlap Community invested $1,902,779 and served 28,886 individuals through programs, community outreach, activities and services defined by the recognized national authority on community benefit reporting, the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA).
 
In 2011, Dunlap Community plans to continue the growth of women’s health and general surgery services, collaborate with hospitals within the region for electronic transfer of medical information, expediting patient transfers for those requiring a higher level of care.
